No, I didn't go to Africa... YET. It has been postponed to either the end of August or the beginning of September. The issues with the government had been resolved and I am able to go sooner due to me being not a student anymore. They had postponed entire internship for next summer but offered me for a chance to work during the fall. I grabbed without giving any second thoughts. The research unit warned me that the work load will be heavy since I will be the only intern working there - I think that's great because it mean I get more experience instead of splitting work load among interns.
With this, I started to research on animals that I will be working with: lions, hyenas, jackals, wild dogs, and cheetahs. Pretty much all carnivores I will be working with but I also looked up other animals just in case.
Most interesting part of my summer is that I had a last minute offer as a camp counselor at the camp that I attended as a camper 10 years ago. I hated that camp, I didn't have fun. Children were mean and I didn't like counselors.
I took the offer and went to the camp two hours before campers arrive at the camp. I loved every bit of minute there. Of course, there were kids who cause trouble but I found ways to deal with them. Then they caused less troubles. At the end, the children kept asking me if I will come back next year as a counselor. At that moment, I knew I did a better job than counselors from my time because I made the children feel comfortable to come back to the camp.
I also realized that accepting last minute changes in plans is the way to go (at least for now, when I am still young). I need to be flexible in order to go forward and opportunities will open up.
